I little normalcy, a little run

Today was seemingly normal! I got my first run over 10 miles in a while. I walked about a mile toward the end, because the Sun was just beating me up. I think maybe starting in the Sun may be the right way to deal with the conditions right now, given how out of shape I am. I’m still good, still kept most of the weight off, but with only 35 miles in June, I am not ready for distances, and definitely not in extreme conditions, like I was. I have a long road to travel and my hamstring is still not 100%.
Other than that it was just a normal day, I dropped my mom off, went down the highway, intentionally missed my exit, so I had to turn around and take the new I-95 and I-91 interchange. For the first time in my life, I exited on the right to go on I-91 North in New Haven. It was astonishing. Nothing particularly amazing when you think about it, it’s just driving on a normal US highway. But it was all new, and I couldn’t help but be excited about it. During 2009 this country actually made a small investment in infrastructure called the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act”. When the GOP took over Congress they forced all the signs to come down. Because that party doesn’t want anyone to know what government actually does, or that it does anything at all. It’s a shame, but it was amazing to see this project almost completed, and to do something I’d never done before while driving. So that was cool.
Then I did some repairs on my family’s house. The plumbing contractor, who will get what’s coming to him, made a mess of this place. I had to use plumber’s epoxy to seal a crack in the cleanout plug on the main stack. Who puts a cleanout plug in with a hammer? Who? The idiots we got stuck with thanks to the mess the mortgage company made. Then I replaced the single outlet by the washing machine with two outlets, because the sump pump needed to be plugged in permanently. After I decided to mount the water filter properly. All in all it was a good day.

Have fun, keep running, and remember; if Gil can run then so can you!
